Finally Making Quilts Again

So, I’ve finally started making stuff again. Feels really good. I want to say thank you to those of you who have started following me on Bloglovin. I really don’t deserve it since it’s been 10 months since I’ve last posted! But I do appreciate it and I have a very good reason for my dry spell…..

That little guy (our 3rd one) has been keeping me quite busy. But he is starting to sleep a little more (emphasis on the word little) and so I’ve started missing this space. I’ve actually started a new quilt, have plans to finish two other ones and have a nice little tutorial in the works for making half square triangles. I know I also need to get on board with a Facebook page and Pinterest (I do use both a little personally) but I’m going to create pages just for this blog sometime soon. I know I’ve gotten a couple of emails about that!

So, when I’m not wrangling the little one above, I’ve actually had a chance to turn this stack of fabric (it was a Moda layer cake….Bluebird Park, I think?)

Finished my Patchwork Quilt

completed honey honey patchwork quilt

I finished! Finally. It’s kind of a big deal for me to actually finish a quilt. I’m great about starting, not so great about finishing.

I posted about it here and I used it to make a few binding tutorials. It was super easy and very quick to make. I just procrastinated with the binding, as usual. I did, however, machine stitch the binding rather than handstitch for the first time. It went much, much faster of course, but I don’t think it looks quite as nice. I learned some things that I’ll do differently next time. So, hopefully with practice I’ll get better.

I used a vintage sheet for the backing, also a first for me. All in all, I’m excited about finishing another quilt and am ready to keep working on the other two I’ve got going.

ETA: The finished size is ~ 46 X 55 and if you’re interested in making one, I have some instructions here.

Happy Quilting! 🙂

Charm Pack Quilt Updated

I got my charm pack quilt (aka the easiest quilt ever) quilted. I still need to bind it, but I think I’m going to have to order a little fabric to do so. In the mean time, I wanted to show you what I’ve done.

(And if these pictures look a little different, yes, I downloaded a trial of Photoshop and have been playing with it. It’s not as complicated as I thought it would be. It’s actually kind of fun. I discovered this tilt “look” totally on accident, I’m trying to decide if I like it or if it’s a little annoying.)

Making a Quilt from a Moda Honey Bun: Part 1

I was going through my fabric the other day, trying to decide what to keep and what to get rid of, when I came across 2  Moda Honey Buns that I had completely forgotten I’d bought. I think I bought them a couple of years ago because they was on sale.

So I’ve decided to use them to make another quilt. I thought it might be interesting to blog about the entire process and document my thoughts along the way rather than just blog my fabric choice and then my finished quilt, so I’m going to start at the beginning. Since my fabric dictates my pattern, not the other way around, I’m more limited than normal as to the type of quilt I’ll make. I’m also looking for something super simple, since I have a lot going on right now, so that’s also affecting what I’ll make.
