This is another quilt that I made some time ago.
I used this pattern….
from this book. (Good book, btw!)
The pattern seemed kind of old-timey and vintagy to me, so I thought the fabric should also be kind of old-timey and vintagy. And yet again, I cannot for the life of me remember the name of it. I know it’s by Moda, though. I need to start writing down the names of the fabrics I use!
This quilt has received much love.
I think that’s washable marker, so hopefully it’ll come out when I wash it.
It’s a big quilt, so I couldn’t get a good picture of the entire thing.
As usual, I had a little fabric left over, so I made a pieced backing. Nothing special, just a strip running down the middle.
It was really very easy to make, especially since I used pre-cut fabrics.
I just “stitched in the ditch” to quilt it. I like the look of simple quilting, but I like the simplicity even more. I’ve attempted more complex quilting and not only did it look awful, it almost drove me crazy doing it, so for right now, I’m all about those straight lines. 🙂
I made the binding out of the same material I made the border.
This was a fun quilt to make, even though it did get a little awkward towards the end because it’s so big. The irony…I love big quilts, the way they feel, look, the way my boys and I can snuggle up under them together, but they can be kind of a pain to make. Feeding all that fabric through the machine. Oh well.
And I think this one would be fine for a beginner. The biggest drawback, I think, would be the size. Like I said, making big quilts can get a little frustrating. Other than that I can’t anticipate any problems for beginners.
